The House passed HB 98 by a 91 – 0 vote. HB 98 would allow school staff members to volunteer to be trained to give insulin so there is always someone there to help students, even when a school nurse cannot be. It would also allow students who are mature enough to do so to independently self-manage their diabetes at school. The Senate did not consider any bills on the floor today.

SOME OF THE LATEST POLITICAL STORIES:
With a message of change and an emphasis on jobs, Jim DuPlessis hopes to unseat a senior member of the state House of Representatives this fall. DuPlessis, who was a student at the University of Kentucky when Jimmie Lee first won the 25th District House seat in 1992, filed as a Republican candidate Monday in Frankfort. He hopes to be part of a GOP movement to “flip the House,” meaning Republicans would capture a majority of the seats. Continue Reading at the source

Just one day left before the deadline to file for office as a Republican or Democrat and just about every lawmaker has either filed to run or announced that they are retiring. Four Republican members of the House and two Democratic members aren’t trying to come back to the lower chamber — but two of the Republicans are trying to return to the legislature but in the State Senate. House Budget Review Starts This Week The Kentucky House will begin work to break down Governor Beshear’s budget this week. Budget Committee Chair Rick Rand says some subcommittees may begin their review in the next few days. The governor’s spending plan includes a two and a half percent cut in funding for higher education. Chairman Rand admits that proposal has already generated some discussion. “I think just talking to members and what their concerns are. I mean they’re concerned about higher education and the cuts they’re taking. That’s one thing I’ve heard from our members, so we’ll probably be taking a look at that,” said Rand. WASHINGTON – Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Sunday reiterated previous criticism he has leveled at former President Bill Clinton, saying the Monica Lewinsky scandal amounted to “predatory behavior.” Paul and his wife, Kelley, attacked Clinton in a Vogue magazine interview last October, saying the ex-chief executive’s behavior could hurt a Hillary Clinton presidential bid in 2016. Paul is considering a run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016. Paul’s latest remarks came Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press with David Gregory,” after he was asked a question about Democratic charges of a GOP “war on women.” “The exchange…was a reminder for Hillary Clinton, if [...]
