Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes is looking to boost her support among women voters with help from former Gov. Martha Layne Collins in an initiative launched Tuesday. Grimes’ campaign announced “Kentucky Women for Alison,” a website that seeks contact information while decrying U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s “anti-women agenda in Congress.” Collins also recorded a robocall that will reach more than 200,000 Kentuckians. A string of recent polls show Alison Lundergan Grimes trailing or within the margin of error to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, but observers say there’s time to close the gap with more than a month before Election Day. A company owned by the father of Kentucky Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes applied for intrastate motor carrier authority with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet shortly after news broke that it lacked permits to operate a charter bus leased to Grimes’ campaign, according to records obtained by Pure Politics. Mitch McConnell appears to debate — and all indications are that he will not be in attendance.
