Grimes launches "Kentucky Women for Alison" with former Gov. Collins

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes is looking to boost her support among women voters with help from former Gov. Martha Layne Collins in an initiative launched Tuesday. Grimes’ campaign announced “Kentucky Women for Alison,” a website that seeks contact information while decrying U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s “anti-women agenda in Congress.” Collins also recorded a robocall that will reach more than 200,000 Kentuckians. A string of recent polls show Alison Lundergan Grimes trailing or within the margin of error to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, but observers say there’s time to close the gap with more than a month before Election Day. Last week the Courier-Journal reported that those watching the race say Grimes may need a “reset.” Perhaps taunting the Grimes campaign, Josh Holmes, who is effectively running the McConnell campaign after former campaign manager Jesse Benton resigned the position amid a growing bribery scandal... Read more

The campaign of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes released a new ad Monday morning again hitting Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell on his absence from committee meetings in Washington. The missed meetings have been a common attack from the Grimes campaign as they released an ad on the topic the day before Grimes and McConnell met at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Candidate Forum. Steve Beshear has asked President Obama to issue a major disaster declaration and provide emergency assistance to four Eastern Kentucky communities recovering from recent flooding. Strong storms from Aug. 19 to 23 caused heavy rain and flash flooding, which washed out roads and forced people from their homes throughout the eastern part of the state. Steve Beshear announced Monday at a Capitol news conference. The longtime head of Kentucky’s agency overseeing state campaign finance law is stepping down later this year.Sarah Jackson announced this week she is retiring as executive director of the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance effective Nov. 1 after serving in the position since 1999.“Sarah has been a tremendous asset to the agency and a true professional as executive director.
