While Medicaid expansion in Kentucky as part of the Affordable Care Act is looked at by some as a success story around the country, state lawmakers were a bit more reserved in praising the expansion at the Interim Joint Committee on Appropriations and Revenue meeting on Thursday. John Yarmuth is fighting a familiar battle in the Louisville district against Republican Dr. Michael Macfarlane, a urological surgeon and physician, who’s campaign has yet to pick up much financial steam. Mitch McConnell is highlighting his record on fighting for Kentucky jobs in his latest TV ad — the day after the campaign for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes started running an ad hitting the senior Senator on comments he made about his role in job creation. The Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Lori Flanery said she “understands the issues and concerns” raised by a legislative panel earlier this month and directed a state agency to cancel the contract with Seven Counties Services within 100 days. Eleven days ago the Government Contract Review committee voted not to approve a $3.7 million two-year contract for Seven Counties Services to provide in-home family services to 300 families through the Health Cabinet’s Department of Community Based Services. Jensen playing catch up in fundraising with $234,000 on hand after Democratic primary

Democratic 6th District Congressional candidate Elisabeth Jensen of Lexington is reporting more than $234,000 in cash-on-hand for her campaign against U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington. In the last three months, Jensen raised $186,000 in campaign contributions. Of that total, $163,000 in contributions came in the two months following the primary, according to a fundraising report filed with the Federal Election Commission.
