After a plane crash in the Russian rebel-controlled region of the Ukraine killing nearly 300 people, U.S. lawmakers—including members of Kentucky’s federal delegation—are looking to find a solution to the conflict in the region. A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 298 passengers from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur Thursday was shot down when flying over an area of Eastern Ukraine controlled by Russian rebels. Yarmuth expects Hillary Clinton will campaign for Alison Lundergan Grimes

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Louisville, said on Friday that while he has no specific knowledge of a visit he expects Hillary Clinton will come to Kentucky to campaign for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes in the U.S. Senate race. “I’ve always understood that she’s planning to come to the district for Alison at a time to be determined, and I think we can expect President Clinton back as well,” Yarmuth said Friday. State moves to drop contract with Seven Counties Services

The Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Lori Flanery said she “understands the issues and concerns” raised by a legislative panel earlier this month and directed a state agency to cancel the contract with Seven Counties Services within 100 days. Eleven days ago the Government Contract Review committee voted not to approve a $3.7 million two-year contract for Seven Counties Services to provide in-home family services to 300 families through the Health Cabinet’s Department of Community Based Services. Kentuckians continue to play a starring role in the campaign ads of Kentucky U.S. Senate candidates as each campaign released new ads Friday. Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell released a minute long commerical Friday morning touting his record on coal with the help of coal industry employees. The ad, titled “Different Direction”, uses clips of McConnell speaking on the issue—including at a coal related press conference in February— and placing blame on the declining coal industry on President Barack Obama. The campaigns of both candidates in the Kentucky U.S. Senate race again expressed interest in having the two share a stage to talk issues after Centre College made a formal proposal Thursday to host a debate.
