Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell brought in $3.1 million in the second quarter of 2014, according to fundraising numbers announced by his campaign Tuesday. The more than $3 million raised by McConnell puts his total at just under one million dollars less than Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes who brought in $4 million in the quarter. The new numbers bring McConnell’s fundraising totals for the election cycle to $25 million. And of that, the McConnell campaign still has $9.8 million cash-on-hand compared... Read more

The campaign of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes announced fundraising numbers Tuesday, showing Grimes with more than $4 million in contributions raised in the second quarter of 2014. The contribution haul brings Grimes’ campaign up to $6.2 million in cash-on-hand. The campaign has already raised nearly $11.3 million in the election cycle. State Sen. Brandon Smith, R-Hazard, is responding to national media outlets and Kentucky reporters after making an incorrect assertion that the climate on Earth is the same as the climate on Mars. Grimes, Kentucky’s secretary of state, outpaced McConnell and other Democratic Senate candidates from around the country, setting a new single-quarter record by raising more than $4 million. The web ad comes in response to a television ad McConnell released Tuesday morning. That ad was responding to Grimes' first negative ad against McConnell, which came out Tuesday morning.
