Andy Barr set to report $1.36 million on hand for re-election

U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, is set to report $1.36 million in cash-on-hand for his re-election campaign for a second term in office. In the last three months, Barr raised nearly $400,000 in campaign contributions. Of that total, $318,000 in contributions came in the two months following the primary, according to top-line fundraising numbers. In the last quarter, more than $157,000 in contributions came from individuals while more than $160,000 came from PACs. Barr faces Democrat Elisabeth Jensen from Lexington who... Read more

Rep. John “Bam” Carney, R-Campbellsville, took an “unusual” step, according to Sen. President Robert Stivers, when he endorsed a Republican candidate against a sitting legislator in the May primary. The Medicare claims from a budget plan proposed in 2011 are again at the center of the Kentucky U.S. Senate race as the campaign of Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell released another ad on the topic Monday defending his record. The McConnell campaign released a new web ad Monday morning hitting Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes on her campaign’s first negative TV ad , which caused controversy because of claims made by Grimes. Louisville Metro government this week is taking steps to discourage smoking at city park playgrounds and swimming pools.City officials will unveil signs Thursday thanking adults for not smoking in certain areas of the park where children frequently use."Basically we’re just trying to remind the adults that will be in that area to keep the children from being exposed to second-hand smoke," Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz told WFPL."That’s the main thing, and by having the signs there they’ll be thoughtful of reminding them of that possibility." [...]

To the state education board, Beshear has appointed Shelbyville attorney Samuel D. Hinkle IV and retired educator Debra L. Cook of Corbin. Hinkle replaces Judith H. Gibbons, whose term has expired.
