Rep. Tom McKee, D-Cynthiana, could be in for a strenuous re-election challenge. The district has changed through redistricting and is now comprised of Pendelton, Harrison and part of Scott Counties and McKee is facing a tough opponent in Falmouth Mayor Mark Hart, who also is a firefighter and paramedic. McConnell "encouraged" by compromise deal overhauling the V.A.

Congress could be very close to passing $17 billion in reforms to the Department of Veterans Affairs which U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell said he hoped could be accomplished quickly. The proposed legislation which was unveiled on Monday will give the secretary of the V.A. the authority to fire or demote senior officials, and it will offer veterans the ability to seek outside health treatment if V.A. doctors delay more than two-weeks, according to Politico . Matt Bevin is helping raise campaign cash for like-minded state House candidates

Former U.S. Senate primary challenger Republican Matt Bevin is using his network to support conservative Republicans in state House races this year. Bevin has focused his efforts via a “money bomb” seeking donations for four Republicans running for state House. The term money bomb originated with Ron Paul, and it represents an often online, time-limited, grassroots donation platform — in this instance Bevin’s personal website. Two political newcomers are battling for the right to represent the 24th Senate District and take on the resurgence of heroin which has deeply effected the northern Kentucky area. Marksberry, an Owensboro contractor, said in a statement that he had collected only half of the 5,000 signatures needed to run as an independent. With the Aug. 12 deadline looming to submit the signatures, Marksberry said his health has prevented him from getting the full amount.
