City of Florence seeks to tackle Heroin epidemic head on with own drug task force

FLORENCE – Drug task force units are usually reserved for police departments in larger cities like Louisville, Lexington and Covington. This leaves most smaller cities relying on regional multi-agency task forces to help in the fight against drug crimes. One Northern Kentucky city wants to change all of that. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes will face off in a debate televised on Kentucky Educational Television in October. The agreement from the candidates comes after both campaigns have been slow to work with one another on a forum for a debate — both accepted separate debates early on with Grimes saying in June she would appear on KET. UPDATED: Lawmakers and leaders with Seven Counties Services met Friday in what is being called an educational and productive meeting meant to open the lines of communication between the groups as the state considers the future of the retirement system. Rep. Ky. Agriculture Department finalizes deal with federal government on hemp seeds, pilot projects continue to spring up

As the Kentucky Department of Agriculture finally settles their disagreement with the federal government over the importing of hemp seeds, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer says the crop will continue to be in high demand across the state. After suing the federal government over a shipment of hemp seeds being held by the DEA in May, Comer announced Friday that the Department of Agriculture reached a deal with the federal government and a motion has been filed to dismiss the lawsuit. Louisville Metro Council President Jim King is looking at ways for the legislative branch to discipline lawmakers short of their removal from office.That's according to a legal document, obtained Monday by WFPL, that recommends alternative ways to sanction council members.In an Aug. 18 letter to King, the county attorney found the council lacked measures to reprimand lawmakers for violating the city’s code of ethics or other rules other than expulsion. [...]
