LEXINGTON — A bitter Band-Aid was ripped off at the onset, but Kentucky’s gubernatorial candidates touched on a bevy of subjects during their final debate on KET’s “Kentucky Tonight” on Monday. Bill Goodman, who moderated the debate, started the statewide broadcast by asking Agriculture Commissioner James Comer about allegations of abuse levied by a college girlfriend last week and former Louisville Metro Councilman Hal Heiner whether his campaign had any involvement in Marilyn Thomas’ decision to air the accusations that date... U.S. Sen. Rand Paul seems to attract the bizarre on the campaign trail. In 2010, it was “Aqua Buddah” — an attack ad leveled by Jack Conway — but now it’s his own campaign offering a profusely strange encounter between a staffer and a tracker in New Hampshire, which ended with the staffer licking a camera. National outlets began reporting Monday that David Chesley, Paul’s political director in New Hampshire, licked the camera of a tracker belonging to American Bridge at... Read more

Louisville officials on Monday began tackling what to do about a flood ordinance that has left some homeowners homeless or living in rough conditions. Following some major rain events earlier this year, some owners were told they cannot make flood repairs in their homes due to a little-known ordinance. The rule, related to federal flood insurance rates, prohibits the homeowners from making repairs that total more than 50 percent of a home’s assessed value over a 10 year period. In an effort to address a growing number of homeowners affected by the rule, Mayor Greg Fischer appointed a workgroup to consider this issue. The workgroup met [...]
