Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell was unanimously re-elected to his leadership position by his Republican caucus colleagues in a closed door meeting Thursday, according to McConnell’s Senate office. By remaining in his position of leader of his caucus, McConnell will become the Senate majority leader in January when the new Congress convenes after Republicans picked up enough seats to take control of the chamber after the Nov. 4 elections. October’s general fund tax receipts grew 4.6 percent compared to last October, but revenue growth must continue to excel in the fiscal year after a slow first quarter, State Budget Director Jane Driskell said in a news release Monday. Last month’s growth — $755.7 million compared to $722.5 million in October 2013 — helped push first-quarter tax revenue to 1.9 percent after the fiscal year’s first three months produced 1.1 percent growth. Total revenue for the month was $755.7 million, compared to $722.5 million during October 2013. Receipts have increased 1.9 percent for the first four months of the fiscal year, and need to grow 4.4 percent over the final eight months of this month to achieve the official revenue estimate of $9.8 million. FRANKFORT Despite Mitch McConnell’s success in tying his opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes to Barack Obama and his easy win, neither the Obama tactic nor McConnell’s coattails helped the Republican effort to take over the majority of the state House of Representatives.
In fact, while some key races remained in doubt as of press time, it appeared Democrats will maintain their current 54-46 majority in the House by taking away three Republican seats while the GOP managed only two takeaways.

Rep. Jody Richards, D-Bowling Green, has won another term in the state House of Representatives.
Richards received a little more than 63 percent of the vote in today's election. He received 6,237 compared to 3,610 votes cast for his opponent Republican Jenean M. Hampton, according to unofficial vote totals.
