Steve Beshear in her campaign's first radio ad. Jensen, who is the likely Democratic nominee to challenge Republican U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, released an ad Monday morning that praises Beshear for implementing a Kentucky version of the health care law and blasts Barr and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for threatening to repeal it. By Sam Youngman syoungman@herald-leader.com Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had his best fundraising quarter of this election cycle, pulling in $2.4 million in the first fundraising quarter of 2014. But McConnell is also spending heavily. His campaign will report $10.4 million in cash on hand, which is down more than $500,000 from the cash position McConnell started the year with. The McConnell campaign stressed that the spending is not in response to a primary challenge from Louisville businessman Matt Bevin, noting that the majority of expenditures are for the fall campaign. As legislators prepare for the final day of the 2014 session, House and Senate leaders exchanged charges Monday night about who was at fault for a last minute communication breakdown over funding for priority road and bridge projects. Lawmakers and politicians from both parties are calling for the Legislative Ethics Commission to hold a do-over hearing on the sexual harassment complaints brought against former Democratic Representative John Arnold. McConnell pulls in $2.4 million to add to warchest in first months of 2014

The campaign of Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell announced Monday that the five-term Senator had his best fundraising quarter yet, raising $2.4 million in the first quarter of 2014. In a statement, the McConnell campaign announced that the new fundraising quarter brings the total amount raised by Senator McConnell to $22.3 million for the cycle with $10.4 million remaining cash on hand. Stine preemptively moves to approve provisions of compromise on heroin legislation

UPDATED: Senator Katie Stine, R-Southgate, on Monday moved to salvage a bill to tighten penalties on heroin dealers and increase drug treatment and education by attaching an amendment with the hallmarks of a compromise onto a road-related bill during a hastily-called Senate Transportation Committee meeting. Republican U.S. Senate candidate Matt Bevin announced his largest fundraising quarter yet Monday, raising $1.12 million in the first quarter of 2014 as his race to challenge Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell enters the home stretch. The Bevin campaign announced Monday that the Republican candidate raised more than a million dollars with help from 33,000 different donors to date. He entered the race last July.
