Adam Edelen says 3,090 sexual assault kits untested in state; calls for reforms and more funding

FRANKFORT – State Auditor Adam Edelen announced on Monday that 3,090 untested sexual assault evidence kits exist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and pledged to assist in repairing a “broken system” which brings no justice to victims, jeopardizes public safety and cripples to criminal justice system. The report was the result of Senate Joint Resolution 20, passed during the 2015 General Assembly, which called on Edelen to count the untested sexual assault kits in Kentucky. 1,859 untested sexual assault kits were found... Read more 

Time Warner Cable stockholders approve merger with Charter Communications

Monday Time Warner Cable announced its stockholders have approved its merger with Charter Communications. Pro-Adam Edelen Super PAC promotes auditor in positive radio spot

A Super PAC supporting Auditor Adam Edelen has purchased more than $100,000 in radio advertising time in the run up to the Nov. 3 election in an effort to boost Edelen’s prospects of re-election. UPDATED: Democratic candidate for governor Jack Conway is touting his record of lawsuits against the Obama administration in his latest campaign ad spotlighting the coal industry. U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is putting some of the blame for a refugee crisis in Syria on Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Sen. Rand Paul sends $250K to Republican Party of Kentucky, keeping caucus alive

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul has transferred $250,000 into the account of the Republican Party of Kentucky in order to keep a March 5 presidential caucus on target. In August, the Republican Party of Kentucky’s central committee stipulated that Paul would have to transfer funds into RPK’s account by Friday or the caucus would be canceled. A Louisville lawmaker says she is crafting legislation that would help curb the state’s backlog of untested rape kits and reform the system of reporting the kits. Sen. Denise Harper-Angel, a Democrat from Louisville, introduced the bill that required state Auditor Adam Edelen to tally up the total number of untested rape kits in the state. Edelen released a report Monday that revealed more than 3,000 are sitting untested in Kentucky’s state and local law enforcement offices. Now that Kentucky Republicans are officially holding a presidential caucus in March, the party’s leader says the state can expect an influx of visits from presidential candidates.
