Jenean Hampton, the running mate of Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Bevin, said the federal early childhood education program known as Head Start is used to indoctrinate young children. Head Start is a federal program providing 3 to 5 year old children from low income families with health and developmental screenings, meals and education services. On the campaign trail in Jessamine County on Tuesday, Hampton told a group at a meet-and-greet in Nicholasville that the program essentially does not serve a... Read more

FRANKFORT – All of Kentucky’s public school districts have met the national goal of 100kb of internet bandwidth for each K-12 student, which has opened the door for districts to use more technology in the instruction of students. In 2014, the General Assembly appropriated $5.8 million to pay for the most recent improvements to school technology including getting to the 100kb level. It’s believed that Kentucky is the first state to reach the 100kb plateau, according to testimony during Thursday’s Interim Joint... Read more

The tradition of writing music for the Catholic Mass is deep and storied, going back hundreds of years. Most of the great classical composers have written a Mass, or more than one; the liturgical form stays the same, and the style of the music reflects the time in which it was written. And then there’s Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass.” Composed in 1971 for the opening of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Bernstein’s “Mass” is a theatrical piece that incorporates the traditional Catholic Mass but expands on it, embellishes it, and even questions it. Louisville audiences will get their first chance to hear this [...]

National Cancellations Of Immigrants’ Health Insurance Not Affecting Those in Kentucky
from Ja'Nel Johnson
from Ja'Nel Johnson
Hundreds of thousands of people who enrolled in health insurance coverage through the federal marketplace established by the Affordable Care Act lost coverage this year because of problems with their immigration and citizenship status. But for immigrants who have settled in Kentucky, there has been no similar enrollment problem or wave of cancellations, state officials say. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced earlier this month that more than 400,000 individuals’ policies were canceled in 2015, leaving many without access to care. The cancellations are the result of a portion of the law enforced for the first time this year that [...]
