McConnell sets new fundraising record with $28.6M in bid for sixth term

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell set a Kentucky fundraising record after netting $3.2 million in the latest quarter, pushing his total to $28.6 million in his re-election against Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, his campaign announced Wednesday. The Lexington Herald-Leader first reported McConnell’s third-quarter fundraising sum. McConnell’s record-breaking fundraising haul comes after Grimes set a new mark for a quarter, reporting $4.9 million raised between July 1 and Sept. 30. McConnell wants to stop flights from nations with Ebola outbreaks, supports sending U.S. troops to Africa

MURRAY — U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that concerns about the global spread of Ebola are great enough that the United States should halt flights from countries affected by the disease. “I’m not an expert on this, but it strikes me that it would be a good idea to discontinue flights from that part of the world,” he told Pure Politics on Wednesday before he attended a meeting with leaders at the Briggs & Stratton plant in downtown Murray.... Read more 

Sexual assault victim notes McConnell's support of DNA legislation in new ad

Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s co-sponsorship of legislation to expedite DNA testing in sexual assault cases is the focus of a new statewide television ad released Wednesday, featured the victim the bill was named after. The 30-second spot, titled “Debbie Smith,” uses footage from a press conference in August, where McConnell and Smith pushed Congress to extend the Debbie Smith Act.
