McConnell sets new fundraising record with $28.6M in bid for sixth term

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell set a Kentucky fundraising record after netting $3.2 million in the latest quarter, pushing his total to $28.6 million in his re-election against Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, his campaign announced Wednesday. The Lexington Herald-Leader first reported McConnell’s third-quarter fundraising sum. Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s co-sponsorship of legislation to expedite DNA testing in sexual assault cases is the focus of a new statewide television ad released Wednesday, featured the victim the bill was named after. The 30-second spot, titled “Debbie Smith,” uses footage from a press conference in August, where McConnell and Smith pushed Congress to extend the Debbie Smith Act.
