Kentucky Democratic Party calls on W. Ky. House candidate to withdraw after indictment

The Kentucky Democratic Party has “encouraged” candidate John Wayne Smith to withdraw his campaign against Rep. Michael Meredith after his indictment on a charge of failing to report sexual abuse against a minor while director of the Bluegrass ChalleNGe Academy. “This is a difficult situation and we have encouraged Mr. Smith to withdraw from the race,” KDP Chairman Dan Logsdon said in a statement Wednesday. “Neither the Kentucky Democratic Party nor the Kentucky House Democratic Caucus will be investing any further... Read more 

Internal poll shows Grimes ahead by two

Despite trailing Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell in the most recent public polling, Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’ internal pollster says she holds a slim lead on the incumbent. Democratic pollster Mark Mellman released a memo Wednesday showing Grimes with a 42-40 advantage on McConnell about a month from Election Day. McConnell releases ad as E. Ky. newspaper reports on his opposition to coal plant's location in Louisville

Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s campaign released an ad touting his support for coal miners Wednesday, the same day an eastern Kentucky newspaper reported his opposition to a proposed coal processing plan on the Louisville riverfront during his time as Jefferson County judge-executive. Two females vie for recrafted 55th House district seat

Only 16 percent of the General Assembly is female, but two women will compete for the 55th district House seat. Two-time Republican incumbent Kim King, R-Harrodsburg, who has served in the House since 2010 is facing off against Democratic Emerge Kentucky graduate Jacqueline Coleman of Wilmore in a different district than she has represented in the past. Beshear, first lady Jane Beshear, Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson and his wife, Madeline Abramson, kicked off a monthlong drive Wednesday to collect the old phones. Verizon Wireless has agreed to turn the devices into a cash grant for WorkSafe, a collobarative program of the Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Commission on Women and The Mary Bryon Project, to provide domestic violence prevention training for businesses.
